Our Style of Photography:
We would describe our style as personal, contemporary, and intimate. We strive to find the most beautiful natural light and create truly unique pictures. We want to make the photography session fun, silly and relaxed to bring out lots of smiles and laughs.
Location:
We are Newborn, Children's, Family Photography Studio located in Toronto, Ontario. Most of our photography sessions take place in Toronto, and the Greater Toronto Region. We love shooting in your home, at the beach, in parks, in museums, and at playgrounds. We are open by appointment only.
Although we prefer natural light for newborns, we love using studio lighting when appropriate and we can set it up in your home too! Locations outside of the GTA may incur an additional charge.

Newborn Baby Photographer:
We find baby photography, and infant photography so beautiful and enchanting. We get such joy from capturing sleeping newborn baby photographs. Photographing newborn babies during the first few weeks of life captures priceless moments of your baby's development. Newborn portrait photography sessions take place at your home where you and your family is most comfortable. Infant photography sessions are not time limited which allow you to take breaks for diaper changes, feedings, naps, etc.
Children Photography and Family Photography
We love to capture those special moments of connection and love between child and parent. As family photographers we feel honored to witness the growth of our clients’ children, as they develop from 6 months to 9 months, 1 year to 3 years. Our photography is very documentary in style and none of our sessions are time limited which allows us to take as much times as needed to get a full range of beautiful photographs of your family. Family and children photography sessions are typically at the beach, the park, or at your home, depending on where you are most comfortable and what fits your lifestyle.
Maternity and Pregnancy Photography:
Joe Dayian Photography captures pregnancy photographs typically ranging from 7 months all the way to 9 months, whenever you are most comfortable. As maternity photographers we serve Toronto and Southern Ontario with beautiful, candid, and fun photographs of your pregnancy. For Pregnancy photographs session typically take place at the park, the beach, in an urban environment, or at your home.
Birth Photography:
It is becoming more common for the birthing process of your child/children to get photographed by a professional. It will be done in a professional and tasteful manner. Timing is essential and you should book your birthing photography session one to two months prior to your due date.
How soon after birth should a Newborn session be scheduled?
It's best to photograph newborns between 5-12 days of birth.
Later than 2 weeks old and the baby will have not only grown and changed considerably since birth (losing the "newborn look"), but they become much more reactive and less calm during the sessions. You may want to schedule the session prior to delivery, please let us know your due date as soon as you'd like to book and we can confirm a shoot within 7-10 days of the date you'd like to schedule. |

Can I get a CD with all the images from my session?
A CD is available for purchase can e included as part of a package but is not included in your session fee. You can purchase a single image or the entire session.
How long are your portrait session?
Generally most sessions are advertised as 2 hours long, though we will keep going as long as we feel is needed. and it is not uncommon for a newborn session to last 3 hours.
This is not supposed to be hectic, confusing, or any words like that. If things are not calm, it will show through the pictures!
Will you retouch my images? What do you mean by edited gallery?
Every image is reviewed and corrected globally for color balance, exposure, and contrast before being posted in your private and password protected on line gallery.
All images chosen for an album, enlargements, canvases etc. will be further enhanced and corrected to to look their absolute best.
What about makeup and do you provide a Make-Up Artist?
A comb or brush and hair-spray if you use it.
A light face powder to reduce any shine on your face that may build up during your shoot.
Avoid high gloss lipsticks or very shiny lip gloss and we prefer mat or non shiny make-up. Sheen doesnt show up well in photographs as it reflects too much light.
We can provide a make-up artist (MUA) if you wish, please provide a minimum of one week.
How much room do you need to set up?
We almost always use natural light with newborns and never use a flash or lighting equipment unless absolutely necessary, so we don't need much space at all. As long as you provide some open space near a window that gets good light, you can leave the rest to us. If you know what time of day your home gets the best light, that is when we should schedule.
Will we be able to view the images online?
We set up a private password protected viewing gallery for all of our photograph sessions. No one will have access to the images other than you ,and those who you want to share the password with. The Gallery will be online for your pleasure for up to six months after the photography session.
Will we (the parents) be in the photos?
The majority and focus of the session is on your child, but we definitely want to get many shots with Mommy and Daddy if possible. We encourage mom or dad to take a few hours off work so that they can take part in the families portrait session together.
What time of day do you usually do the sessions?
We always try to shoot in the morning. Usual start time is around 10am.
For baby sessions (6 months +) We often plan our arrival around their morning nap time as we’ll only have a limited window where we can work with a happy baby.
Why does it need to be warm?
Babies hate being cold, especially if we are going to take some images with a bare bottom. We will bring a space heater in the cooler months for extra heat.
Should the baby eat before you arrive?
Feed the baby right before our arrival. Make sure that they're belly is full.
Yes, that means the baby will probably be sleeping or sleepy! This is a good thing. While babies are resting, they easily fall into the best positions for very cute photos (curled up, hands folded, resting chin on cheeks, legs crossed, etc).
Where will the session take place?
During the weeks after birth, both you and the baby are obviously most comfortable in familiar surroundings of your home, you don't need to be running around town for a photo shoot so we will be ahppy to come to your home with all our equipment to set up a beautiful on location studio for your photography session. |

What do we wear?
1) Solid colors, we like natural tones, whites and blacks. We also like white long sleeved tops and blue jeans.
Consider a top that has interesting textures (e.g. a sweater) can also add depth and richness to an image.
You may wish to have a change of clothing for your session, and may want to consider bringing a variety of textures, colors to achieve a wide variety of looks.
Again, stick to solids and subtle patterns.
Accessories:
Simple and elegant is the advice when selecting jewellery for a portrait. The same applies for any other accessories that you wish to have included in your portrait.
Pregnancy/Maternity:
There are lots of clothing options for a maternity portrait, and each can be used with different lighting and backdrop styles:
e.g. a white blouse, with lacey cuffs with a few buttons fastened and your bump on show, this works really well with a white backdrop.
When using the black background moody lighting is used to add shadows and depth to your portrait.
Wearing some pretty lingerie.
Neworns, babies, toddlers, and children:
Photograph best in simple clothing. White and pastels are classic choices.
Newborns and babies have gorgeous skin, and nothing shows off that natural, innocent soul like nakedness. An added bonus for slightly older babies, is that eyes tend to stand out more when they are not overpowered by clothing.
A popular look for baby and children portraits is all white. This gives a clean and natural look to the images, and is a great way to create a classic portrait that captures the purity of childhood.
Don't be afraid to put your baby or child in bold colors or prints. Although not generally recommend for an adult (or newborns), vivid colors on young children will result in a playful, lively portrait, especially primary colors like red, blue, and green.
Family portraits:
Coordinate outfits, everybody in the portrait should wear items that complement each other in style and color. It is not necessary for all clothes to match, but they must make sense together. Choosing clothes with same or similar colors unifies the picture and keeps the focus on the people in the picture.
What should we avoid wearing:
1)
Yellows, reds and oranges. These colors battle with the subjects face for attention, the camera will readily pick up the reflected light and render skin tone with a co lour cast.
2) Avoid clothing containing logos, slogans, or other distractions.
Bold stripes, large designs and polka dots stand out and tend to draw attention away from subject.
3)
Avoid short sleeved tops or shorts. When arms and legs are exposed and there’s lots of skin visible, it can be a distraction from the main focal point of the photo, the face.

Do you use any props?
Our style of photography really focuses on the baby and we aim to keep it natural, but we have, and will use props to compliment the session. Unless you request otherwise, we can bring items such as baskets, blankets, etc. If you have special ideas for props, please share them with us in advance. You are more than welcome to provide your own blankets and hats, and we encourage this to add personality and individuality to each session.
Consider your child's favorite book, stuffed animal or toy.
