Before and After

Before this year’s wedding season gets going I thought I would include a post on my post-processing. This is not to be a lesson on Photoshop (perhaps we’ll do that someday in the future), I only wanted to illustrate the fact that when you combine proper photographic concepts and proper lighting with Photoshop you can achieve a far superior end result.

Below is an image of Ingrid, a real estate agent who came to me looking to improve her online profile and business card; both very important in today’s economy (click HERE for a post on the importance of your online presence). The first image of Ingrid is straight out-of-camera and was taken in my studio. We had a beauty dish up above, a 47″ octabox behind me for fill, and a strip light behind her and to the right for a little highlight in her hair. I also arranged a makeup artist for this shoot at Ingrid’s request.

Although the out of camera image looks fine the way it is and probably better than most profiles you see. It needed more, as you can see the finished photograph is much more flattering, yet the changes are subtle.

This next photograph is of Sandra and Carlo who got married last fall. Again, the left side is straight out of camera and the right is the finished product. The final image was made into a beautiful large canvas to adorn the walls of their new home. The images my couples choose for weddings albums, prints, or other products such as canvases are touched up and enhanced to look their best. Subtle changes, yet effective.

Kaitlyn & Ted – A last look

Engagement Session – [Kaitlyn & Ted]

The year end holidays are the time of year when many, many couples who are in love get engaged. And this is the year that Ted, who works in the financial services sector down on Bay Street, decided that Kaitlyn, who is an actor, is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He had the evening planned. I wont go into details as to how the proposal went, but Kaitlyn knew something was up, and the butterflies were fluttering early that night. You’ve got yourself a smart lady on your hands my friend:)

Kaitlyn and Ted are getting married next year, and I got the call and honor for their engagement session. We were able to hang out in Yorkville area recently, where the day was brisk and the overcast clouds created a wonderful ginormous softbox overhead. It’s great to be able to walk around for a couple hours in January with this kind of weather.

We ended the engagement session at the location where Ted proposed. A nice way to end the session over a couple of Stellas, and a glance through a few sample wedding albums. Enjoy yourselves you guys, it’s going to be a fun ride.

n.b. look for Kaitlyn in the upcoming film “Total Recall” starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel. Due to be released August 4th.

Phoebe & Nick – Tie the Knot

Winter weather is finally upon us, for those in the milder climates that means it’s burrr cold. I was fully expecting a blustery day as Phoebe and Nick tied the knot, but luck was upon them, in fact the guests were having cocktails outside, sans coat.

It’s a good omen guys, you’re a great couple, you held a fantastic wedding, and you deserve nothing but great happiness in the future.
